Given the political and legislative climate of the country and the
power and impact of corporations, a serious effort to directly
influence corporate environmental behavior is an important tool for
social change.
Thus, Ecopledge makes specific, pragmatic environmental requests of companies and organizes consumers, investors, and students to join forces to press these companies to make changes. Through Ecopledge, people join a community of environmentally conscious citizens, and if companies refuse to make the requested changes, Ecopledge's members will decide whether to withhold their dollars, investments, and work from them. Ecopledge is based on a simple premise: companies cannot survive without the ongoing support and goodwill of their customers, investors, and future employees. If these entities demand change, corporations will respond. Through research, advocacy, public education, organizing, and shareholder activism, we are committed to improving corporate environmental behavior.
Environmental Advocate
Ecopledge now has the opportunity to expand our work, reach more people, and influence a greater share of corporations faster than ever before. We are therefore seeking two Environmental Advocates to take leadership roles in creating and running corporate environmental campaigns on issues ranging from factory farming to chemical security. These positions offer entrepreneurial challenges with considerable reward to the successful candidates and to the citizen movement as a whole.
On a day-to-day basis, the Environmental Advocates will research corporate behavior, formulate demands and messages, and develop plans to influence corporate decision-making through a variety of tactics, including: internet organizing, lobbying corporate targets, generating media coverage, and shareholder organizing. The Environmental Advocates will also interact and coordinate with other corporate and environmental campaigners, shareholder activists, and legislative advocates to make sure that our efforts are connected to larger systemic changes. Lastly, the Environmental Advocates will write grant proposals, meet and develop relationships with foundations, and connect with large donors, all to bring more resources to the efforts we're waging to reform corporate environmental behavior.
